Open Burn Policy
The Forest Park Fire Department has adopted the Ohio Fire Code as it relates to the following burns:
An open burn is defined as the burning of yard waste, tree trimmings, paper, or scrap wood where the contents are burned in an open area, with the intent of eliminating the material and is not permitted in the Forest Park fire district.
Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible material. Conditions that could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition.
Recreational fires conducted in gas-fire recreational pits shall not be conducted within 15 feet of a structure or combustible materials.
Portable Outdoor Fireplaces
Portable outdoor fireplaces shall be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and shall not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible material.
Recreational fires and use of portable outdoor fireplaces shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished. A method to extinguish the fire must be readily available.
Open-Flame Cooking Devices (Grills)
308.1.4. Open-Flame Cooking Devices
Charcoal burners and other open-flame cooking devices shall not be operated on combustible balconies or within 10 feet of combustible construction.
1. One- and two-family dwellings.
2. Where buildings, balconies and decks are protected by an automatic sprinkler
3. Where approved by the fire code official, charcoal burners are allowed to be operated
on combustible balconies or within 10 feet of combustible construction where all of
the following conditions are met:
3.1 The charcoal burners are attended by an adult at all times when in operation
3.2 Portable fire extinguishers in the type, quantity and size as approved by the fire
code official are present on the combustible balconies or at the cooking site
located within 10 feet of combustible construction. Such portable fire
extinguishers shall be in an operable condition at all times and maintained in
accordance with NFPA 10 as listed in rule 1301:7-7-46 of the Administrative

balconies or at the cooking site located within 10 feet of combustible
4. LP-gas cooking devices having an LP-gas container with a water capacity not greater
than 2 1/2 pounds.
Bonfires are allowed only after a permit from the Forest Park Fire Department is given.
