Homeowners are responsible for keeping their driveways and sidewalks in good condition. Once each year, the City repairs sidewalks and curbs for safety or structural reasons only. If you feel your sidewalk or curb needs repair, contact the Public Works Department and request an inspection.

Permits are required for the installation or repair of your sidewalk and driveway. All work must meet City specifications. In addition, the City must receive 24 hour notice before you pour concrete. For the proper procedures and specifications, please call 595-5246.

Snow Removal
Our principal goal during a snowstorm is to keep major thoroughfares open. During heavy snowfall, crews will salt and plow continuously, beginning with primary routes and proceeding to residential streets. Citizens are encouraged to remove parked vehicles from city streets when snow is predicted.

Forest Park has a Snow Emergency Law. When a snow emergency is declared, all vehicles must be removed from streets with No Parking During Snow Emergency signs. Snow emergency announcements are made on radio and/or television.

All property owners and building occupants are required by City Ordinance to keep their sidewalks clear of snow. Sidewalks must be cleared within 72 hours after the snow ceases to fall. Please do not shovel snow into the street.

Since 1991, the City of Forest Park has received an annual Tree City USA Award presented by the National Arbor Day Foundation. One requirement for this award is that the City celebrate National Arbor Day. Residents must trim their trees to an eight foot clearance above the sidewalk or roadway.

Chipper Service

Chipper service is provided to our residential residents April - September twice a month.  This program is intended to help dispose of limbs and branches.  They may not exceed 12 inches in diameter to fit through the machine.  All materials must be placed curbside by 7:00 am the day of service is scheduled.  Please leave branches as long in length as possible and place cut ends towards street.  Do not use wire or rope to bundle brush.  We will not be able to chip old firewood, lumber or split rail fencing, leaves,  roots or stumps.  In order to serve all residents in your area, please limit the piles to no larger than 3 ft. high and 15 ft. long.  The chipper crew has scheduled 10 minutes at each house.  Please see the attached Chipper Schedule for dates and areas.
