Recycling Opportunities

The More You Can Recycle, The More We Can Do!

It is extremely important for residents to participate in the many recycling opportunities offered within Forest Park.  Not only does it minimize the amount of solid waste going to landfills (thus slowing collection cost increases), conserve energy resources, and preserve valuable wildlife habitat, it also finances many beneficial community programs.

Each year the City of Forest Park receives approximately $23 for every ton of recyclables collected.  In 2015, $27,019 was raised and reinvested in Forest Park through these and other environmental programs.  Approximately 891 tons of materials were collected for recycling, representing a 14.5% diversion rate.  These good efforts resulted in the average Forest Park households:
  •   recycling 237 pounds of materials,
  •   conserving enough energy to power every home in Forest Park for 6 days,
  •   reducing enough greenhouse gas pollution than if every household in Forest
Park rode their bicycles to work for 5 weeks, and
  •   saving 8,144 trees from being harvested.
Recycling also boosts our local economy by creating 169,000 jobs (4.3% of all jobs) just in the state of Ohio.
