Tax Department

Like most communities in this area, Forest Park has an earnings tax which covers wages, salaries, commissions or any other compensation earned by residents, including rents from property or any net profits from businesses. Anyone employed or generating earnings within Forest Park is covered by this tax.  Beginning January 1, 2014, the tax rate is 1.5% with a credit of 25% given for taxes paid to another municipality with a maximum credit of .375% of wages.  Please go the the Tax Department page for further information.  This earnings tax is the City's main source of income.

***UPDATE***

*The City of Forest Park's interest rate, beginning January 1, 2018 is 6% per annum on all unpaid income tax, unpaid estimated income tax, and unpaid withholding tax.

Past annual interest rates:  2017 was 6%; 2016 was 5%

*Effective 1/1/2014, residents receive 25% credit for taxes paid to other municipalities. This allows for a maximum credit of .375% of taxes paid to another municipality based on a tax rate of 1.5% or higher. If the tax rate of the other municipality is less than 1.5%, the taxpayer would receive a credit up to 25% of that city's tax rate.
