Recycling Opportunities

The More You Can Recycle, The More We Can Do!

It is extremely important for residents to participate in the many recycling opportunities offered within Forest Park.  Not only does it minimize the amount of solid waste going to landfills (thus slowing collection cost increases), conserve energy resources, and preserve valuable wildlife habitat, it also finances many beneficial community programs.

Each year the City of Forest Park receives approximately $20 for every ton of recyclables collected.  In 2011, $20,000 was raised and reinvested in Forest Park through these and other programs.   Approximately 932 tons of materials were collected for recycling.  These good efforts resulted in:
  • Saving 2,890 cubic yards of landfill space (approximately 3.1 cubic yards per ton)
  • Saving the energy equivalent of 123,304 gallons of gasoline
